Things to see in Phuket

You can visit many amazing places in Thailand, but nothing quite compares to a trip to Phuket. There’s always something to do on the island or off the coast, be it rain or shine.

Here are our Top 5 favourite things to do while you’re in Phuket.

Phi Phi Island

Featuring in cinema and traveller’s tales the world over, Phi Phi is Thailand’s superstar island. But even with the hype and lofty expectations, it’s natural splendour never fails to amaze.

As you approach by boat, the island rises from the sea and towers over you with its sheer cliffs, before giving way to the beach-fronted jungle. Some people travel to Phuket for the sole purpose of seeing Phi Phi Island for themselves.

Old Phuket Town

Nestled in the heart of Phuket’s sleepy capital, this Sino-Portuguese district features a host of unusual shops and excellent restraints. It’s fascinating mixture of colonial and Chinese architecture makes it a great place to stroll through on a sunny afternoon and take some holiday snaps.

Phang Nga Bay

A day out at Phang Nga Bay is an unforgettable experience. From its sheer limestone cliffs that jut out of the bay’s emerald water to the huge number of exotic animals that live there, it is a great place to relax and do some sightseeing. The bay is also home to a number of other famous locations, including James Bond Island and Koh Panyee.

Big Buddha

The enormous Buddha statue in Chalong is a recent addition to Phuket’s long list of must-see attractions. It cost over $1,000,000 AUD to build and sits at 45m tall on Nakkerd Hills, making it visible from almost anywhere in south Phuket.

The drive up to the Buddha will take you through the “real” Thai countryside and the view from the top is amazing. Just remember to bring a map along so you can spot all the other famous locations that can be seen from the top.

Wat Chalong Temple

Phuket has an interesting history, and no trip there is complete without a visiting its spiritual centre, Wat Chalong.
